In Africa, two essential questions are asked when meeting a stranger travelling on the road. They are “Where are you coming from?” and “Where are you going?”
There was a tribe that travelled from the North to the South of Africa in search of peace. As they travelled South and met strangers on the road who asked these important questions, they would answer: “We are on the Journey of Asazi. We don’t know where we are going. We are following the advice of the spirits who told us to follow “Gandaya” the elephant. We trust that he will lead us to peace. We know where we are coming from. It is a place where we learned many hard lessons and we dont want to go back there.” Gandaya eventually let the tribe across the Zambezi river and then vanished. They were in the promised land.
These stories are about my own Journey of Asazi. Because I know where I am coming from, it is a true story, reflections of many of my life experiences with ceremony, past and present, between South Africa, Brazil, and Costa Rica. Join me on a journey of exploration and healing.
